Frequently asked questions

When can I enroll in Medicare?
Your Initial Enrollment Period (IEP) is the seven-month window around your 65th birthday: three months before, the month of, and three months after. Miss it and you're typically waiting for the General Enrollment Period (Jan 1 to Mar 31) with possible late penalties. If you're still working with employer coverage, the rules differ, and we'll walk you through your specific situation.
What's the real difference between Medicare Advantage and a Medigap plan?
Medicare Advantage (Part C) replaces Original Medicare with a bundled plan from a private carrier, often with a low premium and extras like dental and vision, but with network and authorization rules. A Medigap plan keeps you on Original Medicare and pays the gaps, giving you broader provider freedom and predictable costs in exchange for a monthly premium. There's no universal 'better' answer; it depends on your doctors, prescriptions, travel patterns, and risk tolerance.
Will I lose my doctor if I switch plans?
Not necessarily, but we always check before you commit. With Medigap, any doctor who accepts Original Medicare accepts you. With Medicare Advantage, we verify your doctors are in-network for the specific plan you're considering. County-by-county networks change, so we re-confirm each year.
How much does it cost to work with you?
Nothing. We're paid by the carriers, and at the same rate regardless of which carrier you choose, so we have no incentive to push one product over another. You pay the same premium whether you enroll through us or directly.
What's the difference between an independent advisor and a captive agent?
A captive agent represents one carrier. We're independent, which means we shop the market for you across multiple carriers and recommend what actually fits, not just what we have permission to sell.
Do you help after I enroll, or do I never hear from you again?
We help every year. You get an annual policy review every fall during AEP, claims help when something goes sideways, and a real human to call when Medicare sends you a letter you don't understand.
